Working with elderly individuals means taking their needs into consideration. That’s why we have partnered with accessiBe.

What Is AccessiBe?

AccessiBe is the first and only AI-powered solution that is revolutionizing the home health care industry by making web accessibility simple, automatic, immediate, and affordable, in compliance with the WCAG 2.1, ADA, Section 508 and other world legislation. It is part of a small pool of website extensions that are WCAG-approved, with ongoing compliance checks every 24 hours.

What Is Web Accessibility?

Web accessibility is a set of rules, behaviors, code standards, and design guidelines, that are meant to allow people with disabilities, which comprise 20% of the world’s population, to effectively use websites. Collier Home Care LLC wants to make sure that, as a company that primarily offers at-home health care for the elderly and individuals with disabilities, any individual can educate themselves on the senior care services that we provide, i.e. assistance with the activities of daily living (ADLs) provided by a certified nursing assistant (CNA) or home health aide (HHA) such bathing or showering, dressing, toileting, ambulation, transfers, grooming, feeding; medication reminders; light housekeeping and laundry; errands; driving to appointments; and meal preparation, while also being able to navigate our website safely and comfortably.

What Does WCAG Stand For?

WCAG stands for Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. This, along with the American Disabilities Act, helps prioritize making the world wide web accessible for everybody. The WCAG focuses mainly on three areas of accessibility: blind people using screen readers; people with motor impairments that are using the keyboard, and a variety of other disabilities such as color blindness, epilepsy, and minor visual impairments. While unfortunately these guidelines are not strictly enforced, companies, including ours, realize the need to make sure that our content can be viewed and enjoyed with the help of several features.

What Features Are Available?

Basic features that assist disabled individuals with reading our website include changing the font size, changing the color scheme for the color blind, and the ability to stop animations for the epileptic. You can even change the cursor size and color to make it more visible on the screen. Screen-reading is for the use of the visually impaired and cannot only be used to describe actionable icons such as the search icon but also scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate, meaningful description of them. Another great feature is keyboard navigation, which includes navigating the entire site using the TAB and SHIFT+TAB keys, operating dropdowns with the arrow keys, closing them with ESC, triggering buttons, and links using Enter and navigating between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys. To turn on screen-reader or keyboard navigation adjustments at any time, click Alt+1 on your keyboard. Screen-reader users receive automatic announcements to turn on these adjustments as soon as they enter your website.

How Can I Reach These Features On The Collier Home Care Website?

AccessiBe has made it simple. Just look for the wheelchair icon on the lower left-hand side of the page. Clicking on this icon reveals the options to make scrolling our website that much easier. We look forward to not only providing excellent in-home care services but making sure we are accessible in every way.
