With Thanksgiving finally past, and Christmas swiftly approaching, it is imperative to remember that many of us will be celebrating this holiday alone due to the continuing pandemic. Although this may dampen your spirits, here are some ways that you can experience some holiday happiness.
Pull out your Christmas tree and start hanging those lights! According to a study published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology, decorating early for Christmas can make you a happier person. After all that fun and hard work, it would be impossible to feel down.
During December, stores are packed with people running to get their loved ones last-minute gifts to place under the tree. Take some time to go to your local department store and pick out any Christmas gifts now. You will be happy you did when others are braving the cold and crowded shopping malls and you are comfortable at home!
Do you not want to spend an exorbitant amount of money on material items this year? Try picking out a project on YouTube or Pinterest, such as ornament decorating or wreath-making. These make perfect gifts for your loved ones, as you can make them as personal as you wish. Gifts are received better when they come from the heart.
Keep up with Traditions
Do you have a certain tradition that you may have done with your loved ones in person? Adapt these traditions to be done virtually! You may have cozied up under a blanket to watch a specific holiday movie with your children or grandchildren, but it is just as easy to Zoom or Facetime your loved ones while watching this movie, bake cookies together or even reminisce over past holiday experiences.
Send out Holiday Cards
Sometimes the best way to keep yourself happy is to spread some happiness to somebody else. Sending out holiday cards is a simple, inexpensive way to express your love, and an excellent way to keep yourself busy for an afternoon. Make sure to rest your signing hand in between cards to prevent cramping!
